Padres Card of the Day

Trevor Hoffman
A fireballer with facial hair and fine control, Hoffman drew a few parallels to Dennis Eckersley. And he opened the 21st century with a stretch matched only by his mustachioed predecessor. From 2000-09, the San Diego stopper joined "Eck" (1990-99) as the only chuckers to appear in 500 games and issue fewer than 125 walks in a calendar decade.

Name that player!

Trent says he hates unpredictable weather, but he's been predictably productive in the spring with a .301 AVG and .898 OPS in April/May. Hot temps unlock his power - 12 HRs (far more than any other month) in August.

In his first five starts in 2021, Jake pitched to a 2.57 ERA and struck out 26 batters in 28 innings.

The Cleveland Indians obtained Zoilo from the Padres on Dec. 3, 1968. San Diego got 2 players for him.

Bip Roberts
Bip was a blur for 12 MLB seasons, posting seven 20 stolen base campaigns early on. The current Oakland Athletics TV broadcaster did two tours in San Diego where, in 1994, his 24 game hit streak was the longest of the MLB season.
