Sidelined early in his rookie year with a knee injury... A strong inside player... Among Sixers' leaders in blocked shots and rebounds... Left college as school's all-time leading scorer ... Three-time all-PAC 10 pick... Teamed with Dallas' Uwe Blab and Indiana's Detlef Schrempf on 1984 West German Olympic Team.
Word association... Iverson. Points? Crossover? Fast? Explosive? Yes, all of those things, but add this one: Courage. By the end of what was another spectacular year for the young guard, Allen still was operating at a high level in the NBA Playoffs despite a swollen shooting elbow, torn rotator cuff, broken big toe and chip fracture of the right ankle. "That kid is incredible," said team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy, who called Iverson's threshold for pain the highest he's ever seen.
Though Sharone opened the season as a starter, he got nothing but better as his rookie season wore on. He increased his scoring and rebounding averages, in fact, in each succeeding month. Revealing well-rounded skills, he scored as many as 23 points in a game (Nov. 5), once blocked seven shots (Jan. 20) and amassed 24 games with seven or more rebounds.
