Pitched the League's only no-hitter of 1950 in game with Dodgers, Aug. 11. Vern's record was 19-14. He tied for leadership in starting games (39). Pitched most complete games (27), the most innings (312), faced the most batsmen (1,325). Had 16-11 record in 1949. In rookie year, 1948, Vern was on the mound in the game that insured the pennant for the Braves. With Milwaukee during 1947.

My Biggest Thrill In Baseball: It happened on the second day of the 1953 season, the home opener in Milwaukee. The St. Louis Cardinals were the visitors. The game was tied as I led off the bottom of the tenth inning. On Gerry Staley's second pitch I hit a long fly ball deep into the right field corner. Enos Slaughter raced over and reached over the fence. The ball bounced off his glove for the winning run. It won the game, my first time playing before a large crowd, and was my only home run of the year.

Returning to the Braves after 2 years in Service, Del paced N.L. Catchers in Assists and Double Plays (13) last season. Starting with Leavenworth in '48, he hit .304, and advanced to Evansville in '49, batting .351 in 38 games. Brought up by the Braves in mid-season, he posted a .263 batting mark in '49 and .220 in '50.

Back to the Front! Braves card back du jour...

Austin Riley
Once considered just a masher, Austin has evolved into a marvelously complete offensive weapon. In 2022, Riley was a repeat winner of the Braves Player of the Year award. "How he plays the game, the consistency with which he does everything...He's a guy you want on the buses and vans, all that stuff, representing your organization," hails manager Brian Snitker.
