Name that player!

Gerrit's outing of July 2, 2022, was the 250th of his career. He finished the contest with 1,790 strikeouts - more than everyone except Randy Johnson (1,877) and Clayton Kershaw (1,800) at that career juncture.

The wiry ex-shortstop has been a Yankee coach since '47. He played with just 2 teams in his 20 year career as an active player. Breaking in with San Francisco in '28, Frankie played 4 seasons on the West Coast before being brought up by the Yankees. He retired after the '48 season. Frank holds the Record for the most games played in the World Series by a Shortstop - 28. He led the American League in Stolen Bases in '38 and was chosen on the League's All-Star Team in '36.

Babe Ruth, the "Home Run King", is the greatest hero the game of baseball. His amazing feats of the diamond are almost as well known in far off Japan as in this country. Born in Baltimore in 1894, Babe played the game as a kid, and strange as it seems, he was a catcher. He later became a successful "south- paw" pitcher, but because of his tremendous hitting power, he was converted into an outfielder. His first contract was for $600. Years later, in 1930, he received $80,000 for a single season, the highest salary ever paid a baseball player. He established many records, but is best known for his thundering home runs. His record of sixty in the 1927 season has never been beaten. He has clouted 687 homers during his professional career, forty-two of them coming in the ten world's series which have given the "Sultan of Swat" another record.

Yogi Berra
Probably the biggest sports story during the Winter season of '63 was the announcement that Yogi Berra was going to manage the New York Yankees in 1964. The Yankee organization couldn't have found a man with greater knowledge and love for the game than Mr. Berra. A three time winner of the American League's Most Valuable Player Award, Yogi has set many records in World Series competition as well as in regular season play. Joining New York in 1946, Yogi first hit over .300 in '48. In 1950, the backstop had one of his finest seasons at the plate as he hit .322 and socked 28 home runs. Two years later, Yogi tied an American League record for catchers by hitting 30 home runs in a single campaign. During his career, the catcher hit 358 circuit clouts which placed him 14th among the all-time home run sluggers.
