Royals Card of the Day

Bobby Witt, Jr.
Bobby called his Major League debut of April 7, 2022, "the day I've been waiting for my whole life." It wasn't hard to see coming. The five-tool talent was the 2019 Gatorade National Player of the Year and the 2021 Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year. At 21, Witt was the third-youngest player in the AL when he socked his initial homer on May 3.

Name that player!

Salvador Perez is a unicorn in any era, having set the record in 2021 for most homers by a primary catcher, and also being the rare backstop to lead his loop in RBI. The catcher HR record stood for over 50 years (Johnny Bench).

Vinnie burst into prospect prominence with an explosive start to 2022 in Triple-A. Called up in late June, he finished with the third-highest OPS of Major League rookies (250+ ABs), won an AL Player of the Week award, and walked more than he struck out.

Merrifield earned his second career All-Star nod with a superb all-around game and consistent play in 2021. He led the big leagues in at-bats for the third consecutive season, which gave him plenty of opportunities to compile his league-high 40 stolen bases and 42 doubles, tied for the big-league lead.

After being recalled from Louisville last year, Dave flashed the brilliance that the Red Sox had hoped for. The Royals drafted Dave last winter. He pitched a no-hitter vs. Cleve. in '65.
