During the regular season, his sensational pinch-hitting provided the Giants' margin of victory time after time. In the Series he continued to astound the baseball world by winning the 1st game with a Homer and playing the major role in the Giants' 4 game sweep.
Lawrence J. Doyle, second baseman of the New York National League team, was born in Caseyville, Ill., July 31, 1886. He was an amateur ball player until 1905, when he joined the Mattoon Club of the "Kitty" League. At the close of the season of 1906 he was bought by the Giants for $4500. He has been the regular second baseman of the team since 1908.
The outfielder is the fastest of the 3 Alou brothers in the majors. Matty led the San Francisco Giants in stolen bases last season.
