The Dodgers swapped Wayne to the Senators in September of '52. He'd been with the Cubs since '49 before coming to the Brooks in July of '51. "Twig" had an impressive war record serving with the Marines at Saipan, Tinjay and Iwo Jima. He's been in pro ball since '48 and came up to the Majors after hitting .278 for Los Angeles in '49. In '50, as a Cub, he hit 10 HR's. 1951 was spent at St. Paul.

Batted .239 in 155 games for the 1950 Washington Senators. Drove in 59 runs with 144 hits. Batted .273 in 153 games in the 1949 campaign. Drove in 53 runs with 161 hits. Hung up a fielding average of .957. The Senators acquired Sam from the St. Louis Browns, for whom he batted .270 in 98 games in 1948. His 72 hits made for a total of 87 bases. Sam is a good man in the field.

When they want somebody to come through with a hit in the pinch they call on Dave Harris. He in listed as an outfielder, but he does most of his work as a pinch-hitter. Batted .327 in 81 games last year. He is 30, five feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds, batting and throwing right-handed. He is a sheriff in his home town of Greensboro, N. C. He first came up to the big league in 1925 with the Boston Braves, but failed to win a place. The White Sox bought him in 1930 and traded him to Washington.
