Senators Card of the Day

Ted Abernathy
This may be Ted's year. He has all the stuff needed to make him a Senator regular. In '55 with Washington, he showed flashes of brilliance and hurled two shutouts. Sent back to the Minors for more seasoning, Ted was top man A.A. in strikeouts.

Name that player!

Albie was the most exciting newcomer in the A.L. last year. He led his team in singles, doubles, and placed 2nd in batting, triples and total hits. Albie hit only 234 for the first third of the season but bounced back with a .307 for the remainder.

Jim is one of the fastest outfielders in the League. He appeared in 150 games for the Senators in 1953 and batted a neat .312, the fourth best average in the league, which means he can hit as well as he can run. Began in base- ball in 1948 and first came to the majors with the Chicago White Sox. He began the 1952 season with the Pale Hose and after appearing in, 16 games for them was traded to Washington. He hit 236 that season.

Dick is a relief pitcher who thrives on work. Beginning at Concord in '49 he posted a 6-4 record, seeing action in 39 games. After another season at Concord he went into service for two years and joined Charlotte upon his return in '53. There, Dick won 9 of 17 decisions and the following year hurled in 44 games, winning 6. After a try out with the Senators, he returned to Chattanooga to win 8 games in '55 and 15 last year. This imposing record makes him a key man on Washington's staff.
