Athletics Card of the Day

Hector Lopez
Hector was a busy guy around the A's infield last year. He played 55 games at third and 96 at second base. Pitchers know that Hec is one of the toughest men to fool at the plate and registering a strikeout is major victory.

Name that player!

A player who went through the entire 1946 season without making an error. Last year he caught 102 games, hit .259 and continued his superior fielding. He spent five years in the minors, joining the New York Yankees in 1939. In 1942, he went to the Cleveland Indians and in 1945 was traded to the Athletics to put up a performance that makes him one of the country's No. 1 players. Off-season he's a policeman.

After seven seasons in the minor leagues, Ossie received his first opportunity to play in the big time last year. The athlete is equally at home at second base, shortstop or at third base. In 1966, Ossie appeared in 86 ballgames, many times in the late innings as a defensive player. This year, the sophomore is anxious to get to bat more often.

After selecting Susac in the first round of the 2022 draft, Oakland sent him to its rookie-level club to see how his bat stacked up against pro hurlers. Watching the backstop go 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI in his debut (Aug. 4) erased any doubts among the brass. Within a week he was on his way up the ladder with a promotion to Class A.

Back to the Front! Athletics card back du jour...

Henry Bolte
Raised in Northern California, Bolte grew up an Oakland fan and models his game after stolen-base king Rickey Henderson. Even if he may never match the Hall of Famer's raw speed. "I might not be as fast as him," the prospect said. "But playing that type of way. ... Most of the time, I'm going back in the locker room with a dirty jersey."
