Name that player!

The Athletics acquired Bob from the then St. Louis Browns. A wily worker, he appeared in 32 games for the Brownies in 1953, winning 4 and losing 10, a record that could easily have been reversed with a better team behind him. He appeared in 32 games, 13 of which he started. Began in baseball in the Giants' organization. First came to the majors with the Chicago White Sox, then went to the Detroit Tigers.

Bob Johnson, the "Cherokee Indian," is one of the most consistent hitters in the American League. He started his major-league career with the Philadelphia Athletics, in 1933, when he was recalled from Portland, of the Pacific Coast League. He is a dangerous batter, since he hits a long ball, and specializes in home runs; last year his batting average was .313 and he hit 30 home runs. For the past four years he has managed to drive in more than 100 runs each year. His 6-year major-league record shows 984 hits in 873 games, and a life-time batting average of .301.

Known as "Ozark Ike", Gus won the H.R. and R.B.I. crowns in '51. He broke his collarbone in '54 for the 2nd time but he wouldn't quit! In '55, he came back strong - placing second in A.L. homers.
