Name that player!

The ace of the Red Sox pitching staff, Mel led the American League in 1949 with 25 wins and a 2.78 Earned Run Average. He got his first trial with the Red Sox in 1947, but was sent down to Louisville. Brought back in '48 he won 15 games and won 18 in 1950. A real good hitting pitcher, the Army Air Corps veteran often pinch-hits and hit .309 in 1951. Nicknamed "Dusty", he also instructs for the New Orleans Recreation Dept.

Considering its degree of difficulty and level of importance, Andrew's sell-out diving catch of a liner with the bases loaded for the final out of the 2018 ALCS Game 4 will go down as a classic in Postseason lore.

Pumpsie has steadily been improving at the plate with each succeeding year. Last year was the infielder's best in the majors as he proved to be a tough clutch hitter. He was voted outstanding rookie of the Boston spring camp in 1959 because of his sparkling play.

Billy Herman
Manager Billy Herman has the highest of hopes for the success of the '66 Sox. As a result of several winter deals, Boston will be presenting a number of new faces in Fenway Park this season. A seasoned baseball man, Billy began as a professional ballplayer back in 1928 and batted .332 at Vicksburg in the old Cotton State League. A top man with a bat, the second baseman rid- dled minor league hurling for six consecutive seasons, never hitting below .305. Major league pitching didn't stop the young ballplayer as he compiled a lifetime mark of .304 in 16 campaigns. Always able to get the key hit in an important ballgame, Billy compiled an in- credible All-Star batting average of .433 in 10 contests. Before joining the Sox as manager, Billy coached for the Dodgers, the Braves and Boston.
