Name that player!

"Jake" had an impressive record in the Minors and last season he began building a solid reputation for himself in the Majors. He placed 2nd in E.R.A. for Pirate Pitchers, seeing action as a starter and relief hurler. Originally in the Giant chain, he began with Cairo and won 18 games at Chanute in '48. At Denver in '53, he posted a 16-6 mark to win a promotion to the Pirates.

This young catcher has an excellent chance to jump all the way to the majors from the Sally League in one season. One of the most consistent hitters in the Pirate's chain during the past four years, Jesus suddenly started hitting with power at Asheville in 1961.

Bobby is one of the bright spots of the Pirate's youth parade. Just 2 years before he started playing for the Pirates, he was playing all on the Pittsburgh sandlots. He started with Salisbury in '50 and was moved up to Hutchinson, where he hit .302 and had 60 RBI's in '51. He was optioned to Toronto in August of '52 recalled in Sept.

Back to the Front! Pirates card back du jour...

Mitch Keller
Mitch mows through lineups with a frustrating five-pitch mix that ranges from 78-96 mph. In May 2023, he became the first Pirates pitcher in eight years to log back-to-back starts of at least seven scoreless innings. "It's fun to watch, man," teammate Andrew McCutchen says. "He's your number one. He's going to be a number one for a long time."
