Name that player!

Luke Sewell, with 18 years of major-league baseball behind him, has the longest record of activity among the big-league players. He was signed by Cleveland in 1921, who acquired him from Columbus. Luke spent 12 seasons with the Indians, and was traded by them to the Washington Senators in 1933 for Roy Spencer. In 1935, he was traded to the St. Louis Browns for Bump Hadley and then sold to the Chicago White Sox. In 1938 Luke Sewell was purchased by the Brooklyn Dodgers, but this year is back with the team with whom he started his major- league career. In 18 years of playing, Luke Sewell has played a total of 1608 games, getting 1389 hits for a life-time batting average of .259.

After several shots at the big leagues via the Athletics' organization, Ken was drafted from Vancouver by the Tribe before the 1968 season began. Although most of last year was spent in the minors, Ken is thought of highly by Cleveland and '69 could be his year.

Back to the Front! Indians card back du jour...

Manny Ramirez
It could be said that Manny has cleaned up his act. Prior to his second ML game in 1993, learnmates did a little rookie hazing by pinning him to the clubhouse floor and sonking him with eggs, ice cream and Gatorade. His response abruptly made him "one of the boys:" Ramirez went out and hit two home runs in Yankee Stadium. Three-plus years later, he is a young, but veteran star coming off consecutive 30-HR/100-RBI seasons. Last season. Manny finished sixth in the AL in doubles and extre-base hits (81) while ranking ninth In total bases (320). Among his salvos were three grand slams, as he became only the fourth Indian to slug that many in a season.
