Josh was viewed as an average-over-power hitter when he was drafted in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft. In 2023, he was second on the Club with eight HRS through Texas' first 33 games. Overall, he was hitting 21% over the AL average (OPS+). That was a dramatic rebound from 2022. Through 235 MLB PAs, he homered at a rate of 37 per 162 games.
Who better to give a scouting report on Walcott than one of the premier talent evaluators in the Texas organization? "He's a top-end athlete with bat-to-ball skills, easy projectable power and elite arm strength," said Ross Fenstermaker, the club's assistant general manager. "He's mature beyond his years."
Jeft has only three full seasons of pro ball behind him but could be en route to stardom. He has power to compare with Frank Howard and Harmon Killebrew as demonstrated by his first major league Homer. Jeff hit it at Detroit, 8-2-71. Summoned as a pinch-hitter, he blasted 3-run Homer into upper deck of right-center stands.
