Name that player!

Tiedemann was a busy man in 2023, making four pit stops on Toronto's minor league ladder and maintaining his quick path to the bigs. He wasn't done when the schedule ended, either. The lefty instead descended on the desert, where he posted a 2.50 ERA and held batters to a .190 average to earn fall circuit Pitcher of the Year honors.

Matt is one of the greatest defenders at recording Outs Above Average in the Statcast Era. In his first 190 games for Toronto, he turned into one of the better batsmen at the position, too, hitting 29% better than League average in on-base plus slugging. He was the number one player in the first quarter of the 2023 season in average exit velocity.

Yusei established career bests for wins, ERA, innings and strikeouts in 2023. A big factor in his success was a significant drop in his walk rate (to 6.9%), which could be traced to better fastball command. "I think it just goes to show what a competitor he really is," teammate Cavan Biggio says. "When he's on, his stuff just plays for him."

Back to the Front! Blue Jays card back du jour...

Yusei Kikuchi
The Blue Jays inked Yusei to a three-year deal in 2022, hoping he can harness the stuff that made him an ERA champion in Japan, and an MLB All-Star Game selection in 2021. His stuff - which includes a 95-mph fastball, as well as a slider and splitter that average 87 - produced one of the highest SO rates in the game last year. Kikuchi's ERA in May was 2.36.
