Marlins Card of the Day

Gary Sheffield
In 1996, Gary tied a record when he slammed 11 HR's in April. He never slowed down, compiling the most potent season in the Marlins' four-year history. In his career, he has been both a Minor (1988) and Major League ('92) Player of the Year, as named by The Sporting News.

Name that player!

Sandy won the NL Cy Young Award unanimously in 2022. That completed his journey from showing off his arm in the outfield at age 8 to becoming a big-league starter. He was the first member of the Marlins to ever win the Award. Sandy's innings and complete games (six) were the most in MLB in six years.

With his final home run of 1995 (September 16 against the Rockies), Dawson cracked the all-time top 10 list in home runs, tying Duke Snider for tenth. Facing Atlanta's Steve Avery exactly one month earlier, Dawson had socked his first grand slam in more than four years and added a solo shot for a two-homer game.

Alcantara quite simply had the best year of his career in 2021. His 23 quality starts were the third most in the big leagues. With 201 strikeouts in 205.2 innings pitched, Alcantara became the first Miami pitcher since 2002 to crack 200 in both. Opponents batted a mere .223 off the veteran right-hander.

George Soriano
An under-the-radar signing back in 2015, George pierced Baseball America's list of top-30 Marlins prospects after leading the system in ERA (min. 70 IP) in 2022. He brought his upper-90s heater and venomous slider to the big leagues for the first time on April 16, 2023, debuting with three scoreless, one-hit frames of relief against the D-backs.
