Marlins Card of the Day

Mike Piazza
Piazza was in and out of Florida quicker than a South Beach winter, but it was long enough for him to leave tracks on the base paths. Facing St. Louis on May 18, 1998 (the midway point of his five-game stint in Miami), the All-Star smacked a two-run triple in a 7-3 win. That was his only three-bagger of the year and one of eight in his career.

Name that player!

Everything about this Texan is big: big body, big-time fastball and big breaking curve. Josh, who amazes coaches with his maturity, posted huge strikeout totals in the minor leaques. Expectations of Beckett are, of course, big. "A lot has been put upon my shoulders," he says, but I don't mind it. It doesn't bother me because I have high expectations of myself."

Rodriguez's single year with the Marlins culminated with the 2003 World Series championship. It was the midpoint of a 21-year career during which he set MLB records for games caught, putouts and fielding awards (13) by a catcher.

Luis arrived in Miami fresh off a 2022 AL batting title - and immediately set upon clearing his trophy case for the NL version. His 22 hits in his first 41 at-bats included the Marlins first-ever cycle.

Sandy Alcantara
Sandy won the NL Cy Young Award unanimously in 2022. That completed his journey from showing off his arm in the outfield at age 8 to becoming a big-league starter. He was the first member of the Marlins to ever win the Award. Sandy's innings and complete games (six) were the most in MLB in six years.
