Nationals Card of the Day

Robert Hassell
On July 16, 2022, fans in Los Angeles were cheering on the top prospect of their league rivals. Probably for the final time, too. Hassell got a hand from the Chavez Ravine crowd after singling up the middle to drive in a run at the futures contest, his first of what should be many road hits at the famed stadium.

Name that player!

With a 6-foot-7 and 240-pound frame, Wood would have been right at home on the hardwood had he chosen to pursue his hoops dreams. Instead, he leverages his size to stroke home runs instead of 3-pointers. The Washington prospect boasts a powerful swing that launches pitches to every corner of the ballpark.

Washington hasn't seen a player log 100 games at third base since Anthony Rendon in 2019, although that drought should come to an end soon. Especially if House keeps progressing as planned. A first-round pick from Winder-Barrow HS (GA), the prospect is a former pitcher who has more than enough arm strength to stick at the hot corner.

Washington's rebuilding blueprint envisions Carter patrolling the hot corner for years. He had some injury woes in 2021, but showed his power promise with four homers in his last 50 at-bats of August.

Ryan Zimmerman
Ryan, the 4th overall pick in the 2005 1st-Year Player Draft after his outstanding career at Virginia, raced all the way to the Major Leagues in his rookie pro season. He combined to hit .350 at Savannah Single-A and Harrisburg Double-A. He also showcased exceptional defensive abilities at 3rd base and shortstop to earn a September call-up to Washington.
