Lakers Card of the Day

Elgin Baylor
Perhaps the best all-around performer in professional basketball, Elgin handles himself with the dexterity and maneuverability of a small man. He is equally adept at bringing up the ball under the boards. He can shoot, rebound, pass, dribble and quarterback a club almost as well as any man alive. He has blistering speed, stamina, strength and tremendous spirit. It is difficult to say which is his best shot. He hooks from 20 feet out, drives for layups, jumps from the top of the key and hits with soft push shots from the corner. Here he hangs in mid-air as he gets off an under-the-basket shot with no one near him.

Name that player!

With the arrival of Sam Perkins, Green had to adjust to a reserve role in 1990/91, but his high-intensity style of play allowed him to flourish. Green has become the Lakers' ironman despite his all-out, hustling personality, playing in every Laker game for three consecutive seasons.

A jumping jack and top-flight scorer who beats bigger men on the boards with regularity. He not only blocks shots but frequently steals the ball right out of the shooter's hands. He possesses marvelously quick hands, long arms and springy legs. He often rebounds off the enemy boards and then winds up either shooting or rebounding the ball off his own boards in one sequence of play. The first draft choice of the Lakers last year, Jerry averaged 28 points a game at West Virginia. Here he's shown going high into the air to snag a rebound against the Hawks.

The Lakers coveted Davis, a rim protector whose combination of timing, instincts and bounce make him arguably the best shot-blocker in the NBA. With the big man on the team's radar, the Lakers executed a blockbuster deal, acquiring the defensive maven during the 2019 offseason.
