Hawks Card of the Day

Bob Pettit
The Hawks' star is regarded as the most proficient of all big men in every phase of the game. A tremendous team player, Bob can hit from the outside with a jump shot, drive for the basket with authority, set up his teammates with split second passes and clamp down on defense. With Bob setting the pace, St. Louis won its fifth straight Western Division championship last season. In seven years in the NBA, he has never fallen below a 20-point scoring average for any season. Here he's shown going up for a shot after evading Paul Arizin of the Warriors.

Name that player!

Making a huge offseason splash, the Hawks snagged Murray from the Spurs. "The opportunity to acquire a player of Dejounte's caliber, just entering his prime, doesn't come along too often," said team president Travis Schlenk. "He has developed into one of the elite two-way guards in the league, and we're thrilled to add him to our group."

The "Big Bell" came through like gang-busters for Hawks in '69-70 after being acquired from Pistons. In 23 games with Atlanta, Walt averaged 15.5 points per game, grabbed 310 rebounds as Hawks won West.
