Name that player!

A proven forward, Lou moved his talents to guard last season as a result of his outstanding play in the 1968-69 playoffs. The switch enabled him to defend against smaller guards and gave him more shots. As a result he enjoyed his finest scoring season and helped the Hawks reach the Western Division finals. Lou made the NBA Second All-Star team in 1969-70.



One of the original NBA franchises, the Atlanta Hawks have called six cities home. The team started as the Tri-City Blackhawks, splitting time between the Illinois towns of Moline and Rock Island as well as Davenport, lowa. The name shrunk to Hawks when the team moved to Milwaukee in 1951. After a move to St. Louis in 1955, the Hawks settled in Atlanta in 1968. DID YOU KNOW? Since the introduction of the three-point shot in 1979-80, the 1979-80 Hawks are the only NBA team to average less than one three-point attempt per game. The Hawks set the NBA single-season record by forcing their opponents to commit 24.1 turnovers per game in 1977-78. SCORECARD. In a March 17, 1956, showdown with the Minneapolis Lakers, the St. Louis Hawks set the NBA Playoff record for free throws in a regulation game with 54.



A high school All-American at the same school that produced Wilt Chamberlain, Walt attended UCLA where he led the Bruins to two national titles. Primarily a shooter, Walt has become one of the NBA's best playmakers and has led the Hawks in assists the past two seasons. Walt is a fine penetrator, a good ballhandler.

Clyde Lovellette
Lovellette reached the 10,000 point mark last season when he scored 1,471 for an eight-year total of 10,414. He boasted a 21.8 scoring average, second only to Pettit's team high of 27.9. An excellent foul shooter, he was one of the loop leaders with an .856 percentage from the free throw line. He joined the Minneapolis Lakers of the NBA in 1953 and put in four seasons before transferring to Cincinnati. The Hawks acquired Clyde in a trade during the winter of 1958.
