Newman's change of scenery from New York to Charlotte seems to have had a healthy effect on his NBA career. Newman posted career bests in virtually every category in 1990/91. Newman's athletic skills and ability to play an up-tempo game fit in perfectly with the Hornets.



"Muggsy" was selected in 1988 Expansion Draft from Washington... Led Charlotte in assists and was 12th in the NBA... Also led the Hornets in steals... Smallest NBA player ever at 5'3'... Finished college career as Atlantic Coast Conference's all-time steals and assists leader... All-ACC first team as senior... Played on same high school basketball team with fellow NBA players Reggie Williams, Reggie Lewis and David Wingate at Baltimore's Dunbar.



The new-age big man, Jones possesses the handle to create his own shot. During the second quarter against San Antonio, the 6-foot-11 rookie caught a pass beyond the 3-point mark, drove past a defender closing out too quickly and then rose through the air for a vicious poster slam.

Alonzo Mourning
The multi-talented big man became the first player ever to be named Big East Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Big East Tournament MVP in the same season. He led all Hoyas in 1991-92 with averages of 21.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game. Along with forward Larry Johnson and shooting guard Kendall Gill, Mourning represents one-third of the most talented core of young players on any team in the league.
