Nets Card of the Day

John Roche
John enjoyed an exciting rookie campaign in ABA. His ballhandling and accurate jump-shooting proved vital to Nets' successful season. John was twice Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year in college, both times beating out Charlie Scott of North Carolina.

Name that player!

Signed as a free agent 10/7/92... Played in 77 games, 20 as a starter... Had a career-high 30 points at Orlando 1/6/91... Selected to the All-ACC First Team after senior season... Led the ACC in rebounding during the 1988-89 season.

Bill's 1,035 rebounds were 6th best in ABA, 1971-72, his 12.5 average per game ranked 7th as he led Nets for 2nd consecutive season. His key rebounding and clutch shooting were notable as Nets drove to ABA finals.

Basketball is a game of ups and downs, and Derrick Coleman can attest to that. The 1991 NBA Rookie of the Year was averaging 20.0 points and 11.6 rebounds per game through the first half of the 1992-93 season, but an 82-game season affects even the best players. Though there are times when he's feeling worn out, Coleman is always ready for the next hardwood battle.

Kenyon Martin
Despite an injury-abbreviated '00-01 season, Kenyon finished second in voting for NBA Rookie of the Year. Among frosh, he ranked first with 1.66 BPG, as well as second with 12.0 PPG and 7.4 RPG. "No rookie had a bigger impact on their team than Kenyon did," says Nets coach Byron Scott. Martin was named NBA Rookie of the Month in March, thanks in part to several spectacular dunks against the Grizzlies on March 20. "Did they make that Kenyon Martin poster already?" asked Vancouver's Kevin Edwards. Two days later, Kenyon broke his leg against Boston. Amazingly. he had to be persuaded to leave the game.
