Has played left end for Mississippi, North Carolina and United States Military Academy. All-American, 1944, 1946-48. College letters: 8 in football, 8 in baseball; 7 in basketball. Also 4 high school letters in each of these sports. Set major college record, 52 passes caught, Mississippi, 1947.



"Iron Man Mike" was one of the top defensive backs in the NFL last year... Started his pro career with the Redskins and was traded to the Yanks in 1945... after two and a half impressive years owner Ted Collins has elevated Mike to a coaching berth. Is the youngest coach in the National Football League.

A Detroit Lion, 1948-49. Becomes a Yank in 1950. Set new Lions' pass receiving record in 1949 by catching 66 for 1,014 yards - second best in league. Played end for University of Michigan. Gained first prominence on Fritz Crisler's great 1947 West Conference and Rose Bowl championship team. Served in Navy. Plays basketball and softball.
