Red Wings Card of the Day

Gary Bergman
Drafted off Montreal list in June, Gary was a staunch Springfield defender last season, his fifth in pro minors. Prematurely balding, Gary has speed and good shot off a point. He led AHL defensemen in goal scoring last season.

Name that player!

Johnny has been with the Red Wings since 1952, when they called him up from Indianapolis. During the 1952-53 season, he had 23 Goals and 19 Assists for 42 Points. He started in pro Hockey in 1949 with Omaha, where he had 80 Points (41 Goals, 39 Assists). During the 1950-51 season at Indianapolis, Johnny put in 34 Goals and in 42 games the following season he scored 25 Goals.

Nicklas' rookie season was a huge success. He led Sweden to the gold medal at the 1991 World Championships and played in the Canada Cup last fall, then quickly became recognized as one of the best point men to enter the NHL in many years. His blasts from the blueline forced penalty killing units all over the league to key on him and open up more room near the net. His quickness keys Wings' transition game.

Despite his diminutive stature, Roger Crozier has become one of pro hockey's most decorated goalies. The little man has been bothered by nerves in recent years, after winning both the Calder Trophy as top rookie in 1965 and the Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 1966.

Norm Ullman
Only 6 goals away from the 300 mark, Norm stands tenth in all-time goal scorers. Was named to all-star team this year for the 2nd time in his 12-year career. When you speak of Detroit's "strength down the centre" you are speaking of Norm Ullman.
