Name that player!

Born Oswego, NY, November 6, 1978. 6'1", 200. Shoots left. A former standout All-American at Clarkson (ECAC), Erik was one of the best two-way players on the 2000-01 Cincinnati Cyclones, although a knee injury cost him a dozen games.

Having gained experience on one of the top squads in the Eastern Conference during the 2005-06 season, Ward showed flashes of brilliance with the Hurricanes during his rookie year. In January of 2006, he won all five of his starts and posted a .940 save percentage.

Back to the Front! Hurricanes card back du jour...

Eric Staal
If opponents did not know much about Staal when he broke into the NHL in 2003-04, the Carolina center undoubtedly made his mark during the 2005-06 season, when he displayed spectacular offensive skills on his way to ranking among the league leaders in both goals and assists. Drafted second overall in 2003, the young superstar should continue to elevate his stock.
