Cleon Jones: In 1963, Cleon hit .360 at Auburn. Promoted to the Carolina League, the outfielder hit .305 in 49 games at Raleigh. Dick Selma: In Dick's first season in pro ball in '63, Dick won 12 and lost 6. Last year Dick played for 3 clubs and notched 11 wins.



The newly appointed manager of the New York Mets is a veteran of 25 years in the major leagues! Gil put on his first professional uniform in 1943 when he appeared in one game for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He spent the next two years fulfilling his military obligations. In 1946, Gil returned to the baseball wars playing for Newport News in the Piedmont League. The next year, he was promoted to the Brooklyn Dodgers where he became their regular first sacker until 1961. One of Gil's mightiest feats came in 1950, when he tied the major league record for total bases in one game. That day, Gil singled and blasted four home runs in five appearances at the plate. In 1962, he joined the Mets. In May 1963, Gil launched a new career as he took over as manager of the Washington Senators.



He earned his 1st major league Win: 4-26-80.
