Another International League graduate, made major league mark in 1950... initially donned mask as pro in Pioneer League following discharge from Air Forces in 1946... served as tail-gunner on B-17, flew 18 missions in Europe and was held 15 months as Nazi prisoner... moved up two notches to "A" ball in Sally League in 1947 and later same year was working in International League... two-and-a-half seasons in IL groomed him for senior loop... worked 1953 All-Star game... played pro ball for two years in Penn-State League.
