His record in the Pacific Coast League indicated great things for him in the majors. In his first season with the Athletics in 1947 he played in 136 games to bat .291 and drive in 71 runs. Last season he appeared in 145 games, hit .281 and drove in 88 runs. The war caught up with him, too, demanding three years of his baseball time.
In 1952 Clint was named the Major League Rookie of the Year and also had the best Fielding Average among AL catchers. The only catchbt in baseball to wear glasses, Clint broke into pro ball in '47, hit .349 for Manchester in '49 and .294 for Kansas City in '51. He played 1 game for the Yanks at the end of '51 and was traded to the Browns.
