J.P. has a unique knack of grinding out at-bats. Both his .294 batting average and .333 on- base percentage after reaching an 0-2 count in 2022 tied for the highest in the Majors (75 or more instances).

"Pistol Pete" is Baseball's 'Hard Luck' Man, his career hampered by frequent injuries. In 1941, his first full season in the majors, he led the National League in Batting with .343, Runs with 117 and in Slugging. Pete also led the League in Stolen Bases in 1942 and 1946. A Dodger from 1941 through 1948, he hit .310 in '42 and .309 in '47. Signed by the Indians in '52, he also played for the Braves and Pirates. He was in the Service 1943-44-45.

Pete, a former A.L. Rookie of the Year in 1963, only appeared in 84 ballgames in 1966. The White Sox's third baseman made a fine come- back in 1967 as he led Chicago in home runs and runs batted in.
