Began pro career in 1949. An outstanding player in 1950, offensively and defensively. Has played end for Mississippi, North Carolina and the United States Military Academy. All-American, 1944, 1946, 1948. College letters: 8 in football, 8 in baseball, 7 in basketball. Set major college record by catching 52 passes. This record was tied by Art Weiner who also came to the Yanks.



An elusive end, Jim was the top pass-catcher for the champion Lions last season. One of his catches went all the way for a 65-yard TD. He can either buttonhook back for a quick pass or flare out long for payoff pitches.



Led National Football League in passing in 1950. Finished season with average gain of 8.85 yards for each pass attempted. Attempted 223, and completed 127 for 2,061 yards. Threw 18 TD passes. Played quarterback for University of Oregon. Led Oregon to its first undefeated conference season. All-Pacific Coast, 1948. Joined Rams in 1949. Noted for coming through to win games in the pinch.
