While "Tex" Coulter was at West Point, he was rated as one of the game's all-time greatest tackles. It was as such that he made nearly every All-America in 1945. In his third pro year (1948) with the Giants, he was switched to center. He proved as capable there as at his former position. A highly respected offensive threat.
Cliff Montgomery of the Brooklyn Dodgers is rated as one of the shrewdest field generals in the game. Where teams use the Huddle, quarterbacks should stand in the huddle facing the opposing line so that they can study defense formations for flaws offering opportunities for a quick thrust through the line or a forward pass into a neglected zone. (One of the primary rules is, don't wait until fourth down to punt), as a general rule, punt on third down. Then if the kick is blocked and recovered you will have another chance, instead of losing the ball on downs inside your territory.
A series of injuries slowed Taliaferro down in the early stages of 1954 but he came on fast late in the season. Has completely recovered now and is set to regain his slot as the Colts best back, which he held in 1954. A great runner, an above average passer, a fine receiver, and a dependable punter, Taliaferro is considered by many to be the best all-around back in the game.
