Shelley is the nicest guy in the world away from the rink, probably, he says, because "I leave my aggression on the ice." In Columbus, he reigns as the club's enforcer, much to the delight of the locals. On October 19, 2002, with Florida tough guy Peter Worrell in town, fans chanted, "Shelley... Shelley," hoping he would show the Panthers who's boss. The two indeed mixed it up, battling to a draw.

Before the season wound up some months later, Dickie had more than repeated. He led the League in goals scored, in total points, won the Art Ross Trophy and the First All Star team left wing berth.
