Paul missed the 1957 season by being in the Army but rejoined the Giants last year. He owns an overpowering fastball that is really tough to hit and Paul can change up on a batter with baffling breaking pitches. A former University of Minnesota athlete, Paul was a Big Ten football star and was nominated on many All-America teams.

No. 4, First Baseman's Stretch: In judging close plays at first base, major league umpires watch for the runner's foot to strike the base and, at the same time, listen for the smack of the ball against the first baseman's mitt; thus combining sight and sound to make the decision. Knowing this, Bill Terry and other star first sackers, stretch as far as they can to meet the thrown ball (see drawing), shortening its flight by five or six feet and causing it to smack into their glove a split second sooner than if they waited while standing upright on the bag.

Bobby led Giants with 44 Stolen Bases in 1972 and ranked 4th in NL behind Lou Brock, Joe Morgan & Cesar Cedeno. Bobby comes from an athletic family - a sister, Rosie, was member of 1964 U.S. Olympics & a brother, Robert, played pro football for KC Chiefs.
