Giants Card of the Day

Dusty Rhodes
No baseball fan will ever forget "Dusty's" amazing batting feats that led the Giants to the '54 World Championship. During the regular season, his sensational pinch-hitting provided the Giants' margin of victory time after time. In the Series he continued to astound the baseball world by winning the 1st game with a Homer and playing the major role in the Giants' 4 game sweep.

Name that player!

Al is a great pro. A fine fielder and dangerous hitter, and the possessor of a tremendous competitive spirit. His work was a vital part of the Giants' march to the 1954 pennant. Al appeared in 154 games, all the Giants played, and he hit .293. He had 189 hits for a total of 287 bases. These included 26 doubles, 6 triples and 20 home runs. He batted in 70 runs and scored 98. He began in baseball in 1946 with the then Boston Braves, and came to the Giants in 1950.

The Giants' scrappy little lead-off man has an amazing knack for getting on base. In 1950 he led the League in bases on balls (144). Hit an even .300 for 152 games. Had 25 doubles among 158 total hits. Got the 1000th hit of major league career on last day of season. Holds record for most walks in a season. Has played for Cubs, Dodgers and Braves. Traded to Giants, winter '49.

A jack-of-all-bullpen roles, Dominic is a three-pitch reliever who features a slider against which batters have hit far below .200 in his tenure with the Giants. He's at his best against right-handers.
