Had a 14-19 record in 38 games in 1950. Began career in 1937 with Cambridge, Eastern Shore League. With Rochester, 1938. Also with Rochester, 1939, except for one game with St. Louis. Pitched two seasons for the Cubs. Spent more time in minors. then hit the majors with the Phillies, 1943. Traded to Cincinnati, 1947. Tied for National League shutouts during 1949 with five.

In 41 games, with 10-18 record, 1950. Had trouble with control, issuing 135 walks, the most in the League. Herman's first full season with the Reds was 1948, although he had been with them before for 2 brief appearances. He won 11, and lost 8, in 1948, and had an 11-12 record in 1949. When with Columbia, Sally League, in 1946, he won 17, and lost 6, for a .739 percentage.



Used mostly as a pinch-hitter by Reds, Hal hit 4 pinch-Homers in 1972 including a pinch-Grand Slammer. Possessed with the knack of coming up to plate swinging, he hit RBI pinch-Single vs. A's in 2nd game of the 1972 World Series.



Shogo is a human-highlight reel in the outfield with his stellar defense, as well as a danger on the bases. On August 8, he converted an out on a ball in play that had just a 5% catch probability. In a second-half stretch of 14 straight games that included seven starts, Shogo hit .290 with a .371 on-base percentage. He led the Reds in steals in 2020.

Virgil Stallcup
Fielded .973 in 1950. This was second high in the League for shortstops who were in 100 or more games. Batted .251 in 136 games. Drove in 54 runs. Had 23 doubles. Entered organized baseball as a third baseman in 1941. Switched to shortstop in 1942. Appeared in 8 games for the Reds in 1947, but first full year in majors was 1948. Upped 1948 average (.228) to .254 in 1949.
