Name that player!

Had a 14-19 record in 38 games in 1950. Began career in 1937 with Cambridge, Eastern Shore League. With Rochester, 1938. Also with Rochester, 1939, except for one game with St. Louis. Pitched two seasons for the Cubs. Spent more time in minors. then hit the majors with the Phillies, 1943. Traded to Cincinnati, 1947. Tied for National League shutouts during 1949 with five.

Ted came highly recommended to the Cincinnati club. Unlike most young hurlers, this southpaw is perfectly content to serve as a relief pitcher. Ted possesses all of the prerequisites which should make him a success in the National League: good stuff, good control and a good temperament.

Elly reached base in each of his first three plate appearances in his MLB debut on 6/6/23, sandwiching a couple of walks around a scorching double that rocketed off his bat at 112 mph and took two hops before reaching the centerfield wall. He added his first career homer and triple the following day.

Grady Hatton
One of the few stars never to play in the minors, the Texas University ace broke into the Reds' lineup in 1946 after being discharged from the Army Air Force. Grady caught the eyes of Big League scouts while playing with army teams. Considered a top-notch fielder, he led all National League 3rd basemen in 1949 in double plays and fielding with a .975 average. A fractured right thumb sidelined him for two months in 1951.
