Jim Tobin started his pitching career with the Bisbee Club, of the Arizona-Texas League in 1925, winning 9 games for them, losing only 2. For the next four seasons he pitched for various minor-league clubs and in 1937 joined the Pittsburgh Club, being used chiefly in relief roles, winning 6 games, losing only 3. In 1938 Tobin pitched a total of 40 games, for Pittsburgh, winning 14, and losing 12, with an earned run average of 3.47. In two years of major-league pitching Jim Tobin has won 20 games, losing 15, striking out 107 batters.
Hit .292 in 79 games for the Pirates in 1950. Had 16 doubles, 1 triple, 8 homers. Batted in 32 runs. Stole 7 bases. Batting 7th in the lineup for St. Paul in 1949, Danny hit .314, and drove in 101 runs. Joined organized baseball in 1946, after playing on amateur teams around home town. Mainly a third baseman, but played at short most of time for Pirates. Entered service, 1951.
The strong righthander won six out of eight decisions for Macon early in '67 and was brought up to Columbus. Bob manhandled the batters in the International League too, as he triumphed four out of five times. The Pirates should get some additional power from this longball hitting infielder. Bob cracked 32 home runs for Gastonia in '65 and 32 again in '66 for Asheville. He has hit better than .300 twice in four years.
