Name that player!

Art came out of the Army in time to join the Tigers for the 1952 season. He's a good, strong, young worker, but he had a weak hitting team behind him. The 1950 season, his last before entering service, saw him win 19 and lost 12. He became a regular with the Tigers in 1948. Had a 15-10 record in 1949. He's been a hard luck pitcher, with injuries dogging him.

You can't keep a good man down. Billy Rogell, Detroit shortstop, had trials with the Red Sox but was released. He went to the minors and played so well that Detroit nabbed him. Last year batted .271 in 143 games and fielded .944. Is 28 years old, five feet, 1034 inches tall and weighs around 165 pounds. Bats either right or left-handed. The Red Sox bought him in 1924 from the Salina, Kans., team of the Southwestern League.

Big Freddie is the American League's player representative. He was in 31 games for the Tigers in 1951, winning 10 and losing 10. Pitched 188 innings. Gave up 204 hits. Walked only 27. Struck out 53. Earned run average: 3.69. Fred began with Seattle. First with Tigers in 1939.

Justin Verlander
Holder of every key strikeout record at Old Dominion University, Justin - the second overall pick of the 2004 draft - has been even more unhittable as a pro. He debuted in '05 with a 1.29 ERA over 20 starts that led all Minor League pitchers by a cavemous margin of 0.73. After earning a spot in the Futures Game, he soon received a summons to Detroit, where he started twice in July.
