Wizards Card of the Day

Courtney Alexander
Courtney didn't receive even one of the 124 possible votes for 2001 NBA Rookie of the Year, yet no NBA frosh had a stronger finish. After scoring just 4.2 PPG with Dallas, Alexander was shipped to Washington, where he drained 17.0 PPG in 27 games. He even was named NBA Rookie of the Month for April, when he averaged 22.4 PPG. "I feel I can bring so much to the table," he says. "but at the same time I don't want to overshadow anyone or disrupt the team's chemistry." The only chemistry he disrupted on April 18 was the Toronto Raptors', as he ripped Vince Carter & Co. with a career-high 33 points.

Name that player!

Avdija's father, Zufer, steered him away from his first love, soccer, and toward the hardwood when the kiddo was 9 years old. "I wasn't tall," he told the Washington Post. "But I was the fastest in my hometown." The height would come and with it the attention of NBA scouts, who flocked to see the talented youngster at Maccabi Tel Aviv.

With a determined driver like Bradley Beal on the team, Bertans waits along the perimeter with his hands up. When he gets the kick-out pass, he quickly fires a clean triple. In 2020-21, he led the league in catch-and-shoot makes from beyond the arc with 2.8 per night.

Injuries played havoc with the Wizards' scoring nucleus of Jerry Stackhouse and Gilbert Arenas in 2003-04, so Larry filled the void with a personal best in the points-per-game column. In two games, both in the absence of those two teammates, he delivered wins almost single-handedly with 43- and 38-point outbursts.
