Canadiens Card of the Day

Tom Johnson
In four seasons with the Habs, Tommy has only missed 2 games, and has been a reliable, effective performer throughout. He can carry the puck, has lots of desire, and is one of the best rearguards in the NHL. Works for a surveying crew in Winnipeg between seasons and plays baseball for the Elmwood Giants of that city.

Name that player!

The phlegmatic "Gumper" has won more pro trophies than any other goaltender, including the NHL rookie of the year, the Vezina Trophy and the WHL's most valuable player award. Outspoken and inclined to put on weight, Gump has become a real fans' favorite.

Yvan has been used as a utility forward the past 3 seasons with Montreal. His specialty has been on the famed Montreal power play. Last season his 25 goals were almost all scored while the opposition was a man short. This year Coach Toe Blake is giving Yvan a regular turn.

One of the many outstanding young players developed by the talent-rich Canadiens. Seven of his 21 goals last season proved to be game-winners, and he scored eight points in 17 Stanley Cup Playoff games. Chuck is a good playmaker and apparently needs only experience to become a star performer.

Back to the Front! Canadiens card back du jour...

Henri Richard
It's not unusual for 14 year olds to star in junior hockey; it's not unusual for boys to jump into the NHL while still of junior age nor is it strange for 22 year olds to star in the NHL. What is out of the ordinary is that Henri has done all of these things against the greatest of odds - lack of size in what is supposedly a "big man's game". In his early junior days he weighed less than 125 pounds yet held his own with boys four and five years older and as much as 75 pounds heavier.
