Built like a California redwood tree, Jacques Laperriere ran into several leg injuries during his early days with the Montreal Canadiens. At 22, he won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year. Two years later, he was voted the winner of the Norris Trophy as NHL's best defenseman.
For the first time since 54-55 Doug Harvey last season relinquished his hold on the James Norris Trophy and also, for the first time since the '51-52 season failed to catch a berth on the First All Star team.
