Canadiens Card of the Day

Maurice Richard
The greatest scorer the history of the National Hockey League. Was nosed out again in the final voting by Howe for All-Star honours. The "Rocket" spent long hours developing his quick-breaking technique that has enabled him to rack up many goal-scoring records. His total of 384 goals will probably never be beaten. Is a steel company representative during the off-season.

Name that player!

Built like a California redwood tree, Jacques Laperriere ran into several leg injuries during his early days with the Montreal Canadiens. At 22, he won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year. Two years later, he was voted the winner of the Norris Trophy as NHL's best defenseman.

For the first time since 54-55 Doug Harvey last season relinquished his hold on the James Norris Trophy and also, for the first time since the '51-52 season failed to catch a berth on the First All Star team. By Harvey standards then '58-59 was a poor year and in reality Doug's play did suffer somewhat in comparison to recent seasons.

Stepping from Junior to the NHL after less than a dozen games in minor pro hockey is not always the easiest task a young athlete can face. And Andre Pronovost knows this by now. His rookie year saw him produce 10 goals and 21 total points and the closer, heavier checking of the National League took some fathoming for the youngster. But it would not be true to say Andre was disappointing.
