Canadiens Card of the Day

Tom Johnson
It took Tom nine years to attain All Star rating and he did it mainly because he got a chance to pick up points playing in Doug Harvey's normal spot on the Power Play.

Name that player!

Montreal's 4th choice, 51st overall, in 1984 entry draft. Last season Roy won his third Vezina Trophy and was named to his third NHL First All-Star Team. After posting a league-best 2.36 GAA, he was awarded the Jennings Trophy, which he shared three other times. Roy led the NHL in save percentage (.914) and tied for the lead in shutouts.

Starting his 3rd full season with Montreal, Dick starred for Toronto Maple Leafs for 9 years. Involved in trades to New York and then to Montreal, Dick is a real "pro" in hockey. A steady positional player and strong competitor.

Entering into his fourth year as the Coach of the Canadiens, his is an enviable position. Here he is, three seasons under his belt, with three Stanley Cups and two league titles to his credit. The team's success in the past three seasons indicates that Blake has under his guidance an exceptionally talented group of players, who, if handled properly, and play to their potential, shouldn't be far from the top at the end of this season. Besides being a sound hockey man, Blake handles his men in expert fashion. His tactics enable him to consistently obtain maximum effort from his players. The boys like him, they respect and admire him.

Jean Beliveau
"Le Gros Bill" as Jean is called by his French Canadian fans is perhaps one of the most "natural" hockey players to come along in years. As a Junior, he was widely sought after and in a three-game NHL trial in the 1952-53 season, scored 5 goals in three games.
