Tony was signed as a shortstop, spent most of his Minor League days at 2nd base and moved to 3rd in 2007. That versatility and a .347 Batting Average in the Pacific Coast League won him a job in the Majors when the switch-hitter was called up in May 200.
Seven seasons into his career, Stan owned three NL MVP Awards and batting crowns apiece. Four more batting titles followed, as he thundered his way to what is now the sixth-most WAR (125.3) of all time. The Athletic ranked him as the ninth-greatest player ever.
Alek is one of the nastier assignments for batters, who must contend not only with four quality pitches (all of which held batters to a .225 or lower AVG in 2022), but his relentless insistence to work in their "kitchens."
