The alarm sounded right off the gate: this was a new Kobe Bryant who took the floor in 1998-99... improved even over the teenage NBA All-Star of the year before who was beginning to draw comparisons to, well, you know who. Starting the season without a double-double in his career Kobe ran off five straight when the bell rung. And he barely slowed down finishing among the top two Lakers in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots. At season's end Bryant was, at the tender age of 20, voted to the All-NBA Third Team.

MAGICAL ! - January 30, 1996 - In his first professional game since the 1991 NBA Finals, Earvin Johnson confirmed what many long suspected: that he's not merely "Magic," he's supernatural. Playing several positions in a 27-minute debut against Golden State, Johnson missed a triple double by just two rebounds, scoring 19 points and adding to assists to his eight boards. "This is one of the most exciting days of my life," he told reporters. "Ever."

John was selected by the Chaparrals off the roster of the Condors after leading Pittsburgh in scoring average and 3-pt. field goals last season. Had 17 rebounds in 27 minutes of action in 1970-71 All-Star game.
