The veteran southpaw was obtained by the San Francisco Giants on December 1, 1965. Joe has an excellent fastball and was the International League strikeout leader in 1959. With Juan Marichal injured late in the season, Joe stepped in to the Giant's rotation and won several key games.

Orlando's first season in the majors proved he was a big-time star. He not only placed 7th in N.L. batting but he tied teammate Willie Mays for R.B.I. leadership of the Giants. For his sensational season, Orlando was awarded the Sporting News' Rookie of the Year Trophy.

Two of the best friends that the Giant hurlers had in 1965 were shortstop Dick Schofield and second baseman Hal Lanier. The duo were often able to convert "sure" base-hits into spectacular double plays. Dick, having played with the Cardinals and the Pirates since 1953, joined the Giants last year. Dick's best season was with Pittsburgh in 1960 when he batted .333 in 65 ballgames. San Francisco's second baseman is the son of Max Lanier, a former major league pitcher. Hal began his career in 1961 at Quincy where he batted .315. The following season, the youngster hit .312 in the California League. After batting .327 at Tacoma in the tough Pacific Coast League in 1964, Hal received a call to the big time by the Giants.

The Horse Danning
One of the best catchers in the National. League, if not the top, Harry Danning may this year be seen cavorting in left field for the New York Giants. In order to make use of his great hitting power, the Giants are attemping to convert Danning into an outfielder and from the way he has been showing steady improvement, the trick may work. If that fails, Danning is still a great catcher. Harry hit .300 for the Giants last year, catching 140 games, and drove in 91 runs, the most he has ever sent across in eight seasons with the New Yorkers.
