Name that player!

A jumping jack and top-flight scorer who beats bigger men on the boards with regularity. He not only blocks shots but frequently steals the ball right out of the shooter's hands. He possesses marvelously quick hands, long arms and springy legs. He often rebounds off the enemy boards and then winds up either shooting or rebounding the ball off his own boards in one sequence of play. The first draft choice of the Lakers last year, Jerry averaged 28 points a game at West Virginia. Here he's shown going high into the air to snag a rebound against the Hawks.

In a game vs. Trail Blazers last February 9th, Jerry West injured himself. Gail took over offense of Lakers scoring 46 Points as the Lakers scored a 110-103 victory. Gail is a fine defensive player, he adjusts well to game conditions.

One of the high-flying backups for the Lakers in 1994-95, Harvey's intensity proved to be a valuable asset to the group. Whether on the court slam dunking two, or on the bench, he made sure everyone was in the game to the final minute.

Back to the Front! Lakers card back du jour...

Jerry West
The former two-time West Virginia All-American has been called the "biggest six-foot, three-inch player you'll ever see," by opponents who have tried to stop him. A top-flight scorer, who averaged 28 points a game in college, and just under 18 points a game in his freshman season in the NBA last year, Jerry also is a defensive stalwart and an outstanding rebounder. His sharp reflexes, quick hands, long arms and springy legs make up for the inches he lacks.
