Trail Blazers Card of the Day

Clyde Drexler
"HEAVENLY BODY" How acquired: Drafted in the first round in 1983 (14th selection). After eight previous NBA seasons of hearing how Clyde Drexler didn't get a lot of recognition because he played in the Pacific Northwest, the Portland Trail Blazers guard was in the forefront of NBA news in 1991-92. First, Drexler was chosen during the season to play for the 1992 Olympic Team in Barcelona, Spain. And, all season long, his name and the term NBA MVP were linked together. Clyde eventually finished second in the MVP voting behind Michael Jordan, but he still managed to lead Portland to the NBA Finals. Drexler was the NBA's fourth-leading scorer and topped the Blazers in assists, steals and three-point shooting. "Clyde has never asked for attention," said his coach, Rick Adelman. "And that's probably why he hasn't gotten it." It's not as if his game doesn't deserve it. Drexler has never scored less than 17 points per game in a season except for his rookie year. Clyde has paced Portland in scoring for five straight seasons. Portland fans are surely grateful this "Heavenly Body" is all theirs.

Robinson and Pooh Richardson are the only active non-rookies who have never missed a game in their NBA careers. With an average of 10.8 points per game, Robinson was one of six Trail Blazers to average double figures in scoring for the 1992 NBA Playoffs.

Portland Trail Blazers, Clifford Robinson
Since joining the NBA with a string of six consecutive losing seasons (1970-71 to 1975-76), the Trail Blazers have lit up the win column. Portland fans have witnessed only three losing seasons in the last 16 years and have been treated to three NBA Finals appearances, one of which resulted in an NBA Championship in 1977. DID YOU KNOW? The Trail Blazers won the most-lopsided overtime game in NBA history when they shut out the Rockets 17-0 in the extra period for a 113-96 victory January 22, 1983. Portland's Memorial Coliseum is the NBA's smallest arena with a capacity of 12,888. SCORECARD. The Trail Blazers earned the NBA's all-time sure-hands award February 22, 1991, when they turned the ball over just three times against the Suns.
